O***** Hair Specialists

Recommended Posts

Dear All. I am sorry if this topic has already been posted, but I know very little about the issue. I recently learnt about the company "O***** Hair Specilialists". Can anyone tell me anything about them? Apparently, they take a mould of your head, and then send this to a lab in the USA, where a "second skin" is developed and human hair is individually injected into the scalp. All sounds very exciting. I looked at the website, but there was little info on the actual technique. Can anyone shed any light? Would be good to learn more. Thank you!

Welcome to AJG's dictionary!

Mould of head = putting clim film over your head with sellotape.

Second skin = Wig that they glue on your scalp which buggers up your head and existing hair, removing any safe hair that wasn't going to fall out anyway. You are stuck with them for life. You have to visit them every month for it to be taken off, your scalp cleaned and it put back on. The second skin element of it is that it is somewhat clearer than the old school wigs, with lace front so less noticeable as a traditional wig. (See "Wig" below)

Monthly cleans = Expensive.

Human Hair = Hair grown by an Asian lady that is then died to meet the appearance of your own (Actually quite convincing - they even add occasional grey ones in! However, human hair isn't designed to stay in a second skin so it is chemically treated which doesn't make it feel soft and human hair like.

Wig = cosmetically changes the appearance of you overnight to the amusement of your friends and colleagues. You will need a new one every six months as the human hair falls out the old one (or new ones injected in)

See Advanced Hair Studios. They know all about "second skin" See also "Strand by Strand", "Virtual Reality", "Hair System" , "Syrup" So many different ways to describe a .... wig!

Avoid. Been there done that. Momentary lapse of sanity made me stop when they were about to glue it on! (Just in time!) What was I doing? Very high maintenaince. Very expensive. Very damaging to your scalp and existing hair. (IMHO)

Thanks for the replies AJG and Johnyd473. All sounds abit frightening! Having had one hair transplant with DHI, (which was quite a substantial one I feel), I really dont know if I have much faith in usual surgery, but the technique I asked about doesn't sound appealing either!! Will have to keep checking out all ideas on this site. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Hi Tom......of course I dont mind sharing my experience of DHI with you. I had 1500 "units"/ grafts implanted, which were concentrated on creating a hairline, just over 12 months ago. I think the photos speak for themselves. I simply dont think the surgery was successful / effective. The cost was between £5000 - £6000. Maybe I should consider the strip procedure or just forget surgery? I'm not sure.... Any advice / guidance is welcome!

Hi John,

Sorry to hear about your low or zero yeild, that is a total b##stard! Sounds like you had FUE with DHI. Really not sure if these guys are any good at all. They seem to have a great website but as we all know that Stands for nothing. You dont have to give up hope yet tho mate you just have to pick the right Dr with consistent results and happy ex patients. That is if your low yield was down to the work of a poor Dr???

Has the Dr who performed you HT got a good track record?

Its sad mate as you can get great results with the kind of money you've spent with the right Dr. You just have to take your time and do your homework.

I am only 6 weeks out of a 2643 strip with Dr feller NY, early days but with Dr fellers track record im confident im gonna get a good result. Fingers and legs n toes crossed

The strip aint so bad either obviously more invasive than FUE but better value for money IMO. I was nervous/apprehensive about the whole strip thing but its all good mate.

Regards

Tom

Dear All. I am sorry if this topic has already been posted, but I know very little about the issue. I recently learnt about the company "Optima Hair Specilialists". I know this is an old thread but I have just learned that Peter Murtha former AHS wig salesman and lazer therapy 'con'sultant has started up this outfit.

5 years ago Murtha took me for £2000 and I wont forget it  therefore let me tell what I know about this man, he is 36 and claims to have suffered suicidal depression over his early hairloss. A former rubbish collector, today he sells rubbish and collects money! he will you give sob stories about how he's been ripped off and disfigured by evil hairloss conmen.. despite this he will happily tell you a pack of lies to sell you snakeoil in return for money you've worked hard for! in short he is the worst kind of w**nker and I strongly urge you all to give him a wide berth

I remember going to AHS and then Aussie salesman in Bristol started pulling cling film out and molding it to my head - Boy did the Alarm bells start ringing then - They still managed to rip me off £700 by not returning my calls until after their deadline had passed

And you left it that!? :o

AHS is even worse than I thought!

Fortunately a wig is something I have never even considered.

I must admit the way they marketed it, it wasn't obvious it was a wig at the time.

I was a lot younger and at the time I was happy that I wasnt stung for the full £3k and didnt want to make a big a big deal about it due to the stigma involved
