Im 18 And Im Thinning!, I Need Help Please

Recommended Posts

hey mate

ye im 18 lol i hope 6 months fly by and i'm looking back on all this problem and just laughin. but so far that seems like a really dim light so looks like a bumpy ride ahead. plus stuff with uni not workin out, makin the wrong degree choice, etc adds to the stress.

i was looking at Nizarol and it says nothing bout hair loss, just dandruff.... :-S.

i think you should get on fin straight away but it depends on how much of a deal hair loss is to u. i think i might have begun to tackle my problem late. so what other vits are they for hair loss? (except for zine, magnesium, iron, and

SHEDDING!!

There are shit loads of it now in the sink everytime i wash my hair. I'm shedding roughly about 70 hairs a day which i have never experienced, its normally 15-20 hairs max.

do you think this shedding has something to do with the itching? i started getting a itchy scaple a few days ago, and its itchin really bad.

now on the big 3, started Niz Today so hopefully that should stop the itching in a few weeks time

but how long will this shedding madness last?

merry xmas and happy new year to everyone.

Hi Ahmed,

Umm, I not really much of a hair loss expert so I cant really give any advice on your photos... But I am in the same boat! I'm at uni too and suffering hairloss, thinning on the top of my and MAJOR loss at the front/ temples. Its such a bummer! I've also been taking the big 3 (Regaine/procecia/nizoral) for a few months now and things seem to be slowing down so heres hoping! :P Hope it works out for you too.

Anyways, what I wanted to say was that perhaps the most useful thing for me going through hairloss has been talking to a counsellor at uni, its maybe a bit controversial to say, but its been good talking it through with someone. I know it's not going to stop my hairloss or anything but its helped me get used to idea that one day, eventually, maybe my hair will go and if that does happen I'll be able to deal with that! I'm not suggesing that you need to talk to a counsellor, but if you feel hairloss is upsetting you or bringing you down alot, it might help to talk about it with someone- its definetly helped me! Most uni's have a counselling service and they're almost always free too- bonus!

Best of luck with things and thanks to everyone for their replies, I've learnt a helluva lot from this board!

Cheers,

Matt

That's what my hair was like at 18... My hairloss slowed down shortly after the initial shed and stayed almost the same for the next 20 years (and there wasn't any "Big 3" at that time). I think it's impossible to predict what will happen seeing as everybody is different. It is possible that your hairloss will settle down though once hormone activity calms down in a year or so. Initial shedding is common when starting minox and finasteride but usually stops after a few months. Have you just started on the "Big 3"? I hope the treatment works for you and you can hang on to what you've got - doesn't look too bad at the moment.

so basically you went through a thining phase but it stopped after? stayed the same and you never used any treatment?

yeh im on my 3rd week on propecia, my 2 months of regine 5% and 1st week of Nizerol. im starting to get a spot at the front of my head where is it really easy to see the scaple, also this is when my hair is dry and i have tried my best to comb over that spot, its still noticable.

i wudnt dare dream of getting my hair cut even though its wel over due bcause when i lift my hair up you can see practically all of my head. there is an example on the far end picture above.

happy new year to all

hey matt

cheers for the advice but i'm hardly at uni coz i got so many other personal issues going on so i'm probably hav dropped out of uni by next week.

glad to hear that the big 3 has slowed hair loss down for you in just a few months, which is a good sign for good improvement.

i'm being to come to terms with hair loss starting to relise that if i lose it all, its not the end of the world but bcoz its happening to me at 18 its a bigger pill to swollow. but if worse comes to worse, i can just keep my eye on that glimer of hope that hair cloneing will hit the market in 5 years, so that slight chance that i may be able to have a full head of hair once again.

i'v been looking on ********* website aswell. its shows loads of before and after pictures of people of hav been on minox, propecia or both. most of the results are really dramatic so everytime i just flick back to that site it brings back some hope.

Well it almost stopped... after the initial rapid thinning phase I continued to lose hair but so gradually that the difference from year to year wasn't noticeable - but looking at photos 10 years apart there was a bit of a difference. A second thinning phase started when I was about 40 and the front thinned out and I became officially bald-looking and I avoided being photographed because I was ashamed of my nuclear scientists forehead. Then I tried Minoxidil and it wiped out the hair I had left at the front on one side - I used it for 10 months and it only made my hair worse. So I got a hair transplant... I haven't ever tried any drugs other than Minoxidil. I've fallen for all the usual snake oil scams and have tried all sorts of lotions and shampoos that never made any difference. Minoxidil made a difference but for me it only made things worse - I lost my hair and my money.

I was thinking about getting a FU transplant if my treatment does not work out well. i was wondering, with the donar site, once they take out the folicals, do they grow back on the donar area? or once they taken they are just gone?

also when they plant the folicals in the bald area, do they multiply and grow or just grow the same number that were taken from the back?.

as guys we hav pretty strong body hairs. i wa wonderin, that in HT, why dont they use the folicals from ya body hairs and then transplant them. my body hair is stronger and thicker than that on my head which pisses me off coz its the wrong way round lol.

i hav noticed that wen i wash my hair most of the hair now sink at the bottom of the basin as before they use to float. is tht a sign that my hair is getting its weight bk?

so far my has not improved, it feels like its got worse and i have bad hair days everyday coz of minox, its soo messy and makes it eaiser to see through the gaps.

in my treatment process i am comin close to the 3rd month of propeica and 4th month of regaine 5% and 1 month of Niz.

i am trying my best to be really strong about hair loss, my mind is not as much as obbsessed with the problem but i know tht im on tht point of where im so close to breakin down, so im just holding on to tht false hope tht improvment is jus around the corner.

i also want to say tht i have not had much major shedding, sum days i have 50-70 hairs falling out and sum days its 20-35. is major shedding when u hav loads of hairs like 50-70+ falling out everyday?

cheers for reading

It all sounds positive - try stop scrutinizing over it !! Counting hairs isn't going to do you any good mate.

You are still in the early stages of the meds and you will hopefully start to see the benefits over the next few months - upto a year!

Good luck!

STOP SCRTUNIZING OVER IT ;)

Alright Ahmed, my name is Chris and I am new to this site. I am 23 and have had to go through the same sh*t as you with people making comments and getting so depressed I never went out and saw my friends. I used to take regain but looking back i am not a big fan and believe you have to take internal medication to really see any benefits. Last year I got so depressed by it all and had a hair transplant using the choi procedure. I had 4700 hairs transplanted. I am not saying you should do what I hae done but it is good to know hair transplants work. I have only had one comment about my hair since I had it done and it looks so much better now than it did in the past. I also take Dutasteride instead of Propecia as it is slightly stronger and as my hair loss was quite vigerous I felt it was appropriate to go to these measures. I know exactly how you feel and if you ever want a chat or anything give me a call / email??!!!

cheers for the advice

I have written to the clinic and asked them to send me my before procedure photos. Before I had the op I would never take any photos of myself and any I saw I would rip up and throw away. I did see your photos mate and I can definitely relate to what your going through. You look to be thinning a lot at the front. I went thin all over the top. I remember putting my hands through my hair and a load of blond hair falling out. I would spend my whole time just looking in the mirror thinking what am i going to do if it is just going to get worse. My parents could never understand and when i decided to have a hair tranplant 6 months ago they were completely against it. I knew it was the right thing to do though and as soon as I had the confidence in the surgeon having done loads and loads and loads of reading I actually began to feel much more confident that my life was going to improve.

If you want a chat or anything that is fine, just send me an email to chrissmith_74@hotmail.com and I will give you a ring. As regards advice I would say go for a HT and take finasteride. Others would say go for herbal remedies and lotions etc. but i tried taht for years with very little luck and a lot of expense. I can honestly say my HT has been a massive success and I have only had one comment in four months since I had the procedure.

People will tell you all kinds of stuff to try but if it bothers you as much as it bothered nme there is only one very painless, very successful solution!! As soon as have photos will happily send on!!

The overall outcome does take upto a year - What cs0911 is saying here is that even at this early stage he is happy and content with how the growth is progressing i believe.

Good growth to you cs0991!!

You are too young for a hair transplant. Stick with the meds and stablise your loss. If you have this much loss at such an early age chances are you are going to be high on the NW scale.

Get on the meds and attempt to stop the loss!!

I agree with George here. You need to see how the medication benefits you beforeyou even contemplate a HT.

19 is too young mate! No Ethical Dr would perform on you! Be warned an unethical one would!!

You need to be patient and wait to see how you go with the meds first!!!!!!!!!! :)

I agree Ahmed with what the others have said, I defintely wouldnt have a hair transplant yet. Being so young your hair is still really volatile to change whether it be growing or falling out. When I was 20 it was bad, when 21 it grew back again and then 22 thinned again. Foe the next couple of years try the tablets and other forms of medication. Hopefully the medication with stop if not at least slow the process down and then if in a couple of years time if the problem has got worse you could look to a hair transplant.

Also if you had one now you wouldnt necessarily know the extent of your hairloss fully and as a result you may still need another hair transplant further down the line on areas that are presenlty ok. This is definitely the case for me I think as the back is starting to go a bit but only a few months ago I only believed it to be the top.

Regarding the comment from Hairless; Spex thank you for expalining what I was trying to say, People on forums are always looking to catch either out. I am neither a specialist or have numerous years of experience and qualifications. All I can relate to is what I have gone through over the last 12 months and the progress I have seen since the HT 4 months ago. Wjhilst I understand people will always be sceptical (exactly the same as I have been), many who enter posts on these websites are simply trying to help others by sharing a common interest / concern

Mate I didnt mean u at all. I was referring to Hairless questioning my experience having only had a hair transplant 4 months ago. The questions you asked are perfectly normal and they were the exact same ones I have been asking everyone for the next 18months. Its good to ask, thats why I still log onto these forums
