Women's Hair Loss

Recommended Posts

Guest martha

Hi, I am a 37 year old girl. I started to lose my hair at the age of 24, both my parents had lost their hair, so the specialist I saw at the time confirmed that I was doomed (all my three brothers went bold).

I have been taking for the last 5 years a drug called flutamide, it is an anti-androgen drug used to treat prostate cancer in men, but it has the nice side effect of growing your hair back. The flutamide (250 mg daily) seemed to work for me, at least it stopped my hair falling. Together with that, I used Minoxidil 5% twice a day, then my scalp reacted to it and I had to reduce to 2%.

The problems have started now. My husband and I are trying for a baby and the doctor asked me to stop taking the flutamide as it could be dangerous in case of pregancy. The sad thing is that I have had to stop even whilst trying, so even if it could take months or years to conceive, I have to stay away from that medication. The hair has started to fall again. I still use the Minoxidil, but it does not seem enough. I am very worried about losing all of the hair that is left.

To be honest, I don't know what to try next. I have been asked not to take any oral supplements, so what else is out there that works? There is so much advertised, but I don't know which things are truly effective and not a waste of money and time.

Any help iwill be welcome.
