  1. Bay Area hair restoration surgeon, Sara Wasserbauer, M.D., will perform a hair transplant live on a 35-year old man suffering from male pattern baldness. The surgery will be broadcast on TheBaldTruth.com and GFQLive.TV on May 6, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. PST. Greg Adler, an attorney, Mensa International member and fitness model, will share his personal hair restoration journey with viewers during the transplant and in follow-up posts on CaliforniaHairSurgeon.com. Much to his chagrin, Adler is part of the 60 percent of the hair loss population experiencing male pattern baldness. A 2004 Met-RX champion, Adler takes great care of his body and enjoys a very healthy lifestyle. Over the last several years, his hairline has gradually moved further and further back on his scalp. After a lot of research and conversations, Adler selected Dr. Wasserbauer to perform his hair transplant. Dr. Wasserbauer performed a hair transplant live on TheBaldTruth.com last year that was tremendously successful and attracted tens of thousands of viewers to the site. “We had been asked to do another live transplant on the The Bald Truth and after meeting with Greg, we felt he would be a great patient to do this with,” said Dr. Wasserbauer. “His story will resonate with so many men and he’s got a great personality to keep viewers entertained.” Dr. Sara Wasserbauer is a California-based hair transplant surgeon. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery in the San Francisco Bay area, and has performed successful hair transplant surgery on thousands of people with dramatic, natural-looking results. 2. Ziering, a leading medical practice specialising in hair restoration, introduces 'Robograft', the first and only robotic hair restoration procedure to the UK. The ARTAS System is a new, physician controlled robotic technology which is set to revolutionise hair transplant surgery in the UK. This process of hair restoration entails a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) procedure, which works by transplanting hair from healthy ‘donor’ areas one unit at a time into desired thinning or balding regions. To date, this procedure is done manually by a physician, but is a labour intensive process. The Robograft procedure from Ziering, while still overseen by a physician – offers greater precision, consistency and speed allowing more time for artistic input. Patients therefore benefit from human expertise, enhanced by technological innovation. Additional benefits of the ARTAS System include; Minimally invasive procedure with virtually no post-operative discomfort, no linear incision with a scalpel and no linear scarring, ability to wear hair at varying lengths without concern of a linear scar being visible to others and higher quality grafts which enhance transplant survival rates. With high profile figures such as Wayne Rooney recently benefiting from the FUE procedure, the taboos around hair loss have been challenged, resulting in increased demand for solutions among men and women in the UK. The introduction of the ARTAS System to the UK means that for the first time ever, people in the UK worrying about hair loss will have access to the latest technology and a permanent solution. 3. Wayne Rooney has been voted the celebrity with the best hair transplant in a new poll. The England and Manchester United striker just beat James Nesbitt and the Embarrassing Bodies doctor Christian Jessen in the survey to find top of the (transplanted) crops. Dancing On Ice Star Jason Gardiner was fourth and the model-turned actor Calum Best fifth. Respondents were also asked to name the five celebrities who would most benefit from a hair transplant – and Prince William was the runaway winner. International heartthrob and actor Jude Law came second in the list of men who are in need of a more luscious mane. Rooney was responsible for a 25 per cent surge in young men seeking hair transplants after he had his £30,000 operation two years ago. Ironically, experts believe that Rooney will soon need a second transplant because he had surgery at such a young age when he was still rapidly losing his natural hair. The survey of 1,000 people was carried out by the Crown Clinic in Manchester – the UK’s leading hair transplant clinic. Surgeon Asim Shahmalak from the Crown Clinic said that Rooney was the most popular role model for men seeking transplants. Complete article
  4. Hair loss is a common issue for many men, but the same method of restoration is not always appropriate for all hair types. Dr. Samuel Lam, a board-certified hair restoration surgeon, describes the techniques and differences of varying ethnic hair qualities for the best results. “Ethnic hair qualities are remarkably different and must be understood in order to achieve natural results,” explains Dr. Lam. “With various hairlines and textures, placement and harvesting techniques must always be considered before starting a procedure.” Below are details for four ethnic hair transplant procedures: Asian Hair Transplant: Asian hair transplants have been considered one of the most difficult types of hair transplants due to the unique characteristics of the Asian hair shaft and hair-to-sculpt color contrast. It is particularly important to understand the shape of the Asian hairline that is slightly wider and rounder, the differences in density and the differences in hair caliber. For hair transplants, the very thick, straight black hair against a paler skin background must be handled and placed at very low angles to appear natural. Choosing only the finest hairs for the hairline and creating very low angles allows Dr. Lam to create the most natural results for Asians. Hispanic Hair Transplant: Since “Hispanic” is a broad term and encompasses many types of individuals of Spanish descent, hair restoration in the Hispanic individual is more difficult to categorize and depends on what specific ethnic mix of each person. The hairline is further tailored to the individual’s facial shape and degree of hair loss. Select a plastic surgeon that considers the ethnic mix and will thoroughly explain the procedure in your preferred language. Complete article
  5. Great Hair Transplants, home of Dr. Brett Bolton’s innovative MaxHarvest™ Procedure, has produced an elaborate educational website loaded with hundreds of videos and photos of patients ranging from minimal to maximum hair loss. The site was set up as an educational platform where prospective patients can watch informative videos in private. There are also many videos of Dr. Bolton explaining all the different choices available today the hair transplant industry has to offer. “The most disturbing issue I find is when men and women with hair loss are not given the proper information about the various techniques.” explains Dr. Bolton. “Not only are people being misinformed, they are being sold the wrong solution. I would advise anyone out there who is confused to simply stop and do more research!” added Dr. Bolton. The company advises men and women with hair loss to make sure they choose a dedicated hair doctor with more than five years experience in hair transplant surgery. Once that has been accomplished, the patient should expect to see that doctor’s actual work in hundreds of before and after photos and videos. “There are medical equipment companies out there peddling their machines with claims that it does not matter who your doctor is as long as you use their machine, “ explains Steve Cook Chief Operating Officer at Great Hair Transplants. “These companies are sending the wrong message to the patient including using extremely illustrated scare tactics,” he added. 6. Football legend George Best's son Calum has followed in the footsteps of Man United ace Wayne Rooney by undergoing a hair transplant after feeling low about his premature loss. Calum, 31, spent 8000 pounds getting his hairline bolstered after his scalp was damaged from years of dying his mane blonde and being pulled too tight in a ponytail, the Daily Mail reported. The former model began losing his hair at the age of 23 and has had 1,200 grafts, amounting to 1,850 individual hairs, moved from the side of his scalp to the front. After sitting down at the Crown Clinic, in Manchester, for a few hours with surgeon Asim Shahmalak, Calum was thrilled with the results. "I am so pleased I had it done. I was fed up of losing my hair and wanted to look good," he said. "You only have to see how much better people like Wayne Rooney, James Nesbitt and Gordon Ramsay look after having similar operations," he added. It will take between six months to a year for full effect of the transplant to show. Complete hair transplant story
  7. He’s got swag, he’s got style, and according to the promo material on Clear Channel’s website for the radio show he fronts, Real Radio’s 94.3 “The Penthouse,” he “parties like a rock star on South Beach and Manhattan,” but what he ain’t got he’s about to get from Dr. Alan J. Bauman, internationally famous hair transplant doctor, and that’s two days of hair transplant surgery starting on Monday, October 29th and Tuesday, October 30th. He goes by “Greek” and his dedicated base of South Florida radio fans follow him daily from 10 AM to 2 PM, where Greek breaks down the “worlds of entertainment and sports and teaches you how to date and even keep a Las Vegas show girl.” And while he definitely runs in celebrity circles and can be seen courtside from Miami to New York and Las Vegas laying down the “odds” during his Saturday radio show, “The Locker Room” what Greek’s missing in his fast-paced, high profile, livin’-large-lifestyle is just one thing, a fuller head of hair. And all that is about to change when Greek hits Dr. Bauman’s surgical operatory where he’ll receive more than 3,000 individually placed hair grafts from Dr. Bauman, who is recognized as one of the world’s top medical experts on hair loss. “This is the most sophisticated procedure being performed by one of the world’s best hair transplant doctors, Dr. Bauman is the only guy I’d let do anything like this on me,” says Greek, who has been one of South Florida’s leading radio personalities since 2003. Kevin Rolston of the “KVJ” Radio Show Went First, now it’s Greek’s Turn: Dr. Bauman and his team performed a NeoGraft FUE hair transplant procedure on one of Greek’s radio colleagues, Kevin Rolston, an on air-personality on one of Clear Channel’s sister station’s, WILD 95.5. In July, Rolston, the ringleader of the “Kevin, Virginia, Jason” morning show, met Dr. Bauman in his Boca Raton based operatory where his minimally-invasive hair transplant procedure was broadcast live via the internet to a global audience of nearly 75,000 people in 22 countries and was simultaneously streamed on the radio station’s website for Kevin’s fans to watch. 8. What picture comes to mind when you hear the words “hair transplant”? Perhaps you envision a middle-aged man with mini-grafts or hair plugs dotting his scalp, creating an uneven hairline. Such were too often the unsatisfactory results of hair transplants performed years ago with now-outdated methods. “Doctors used to do hair plugs that were each a centimeter long, but that’s been refined into one follicular unit at a time,” says Dr. Justin Misko of JMISKO Surgical Design M.D., 5800 Hidcote Drive, Suite 103, in Lincoln. Before going into the new transplantation technique, Misko explains why transplanted hair grows. Hair on the back and sides of a balding scalp is known as “donor-dominant” hair. This hair grows throughout a lifetime, even in men with extensive male pattern hair loss. Donor-dominant hair follicles are not subject to the inherited effects of balding genes. So, when donor-dominant hair follicles are transplanted to bald scalp areas, they continue to grow. Donor-dominant hair can be extracted in two ways, Misko explains. The most common method is to remove it in strips, usually from the back of the head, with a special scalpel-like device. Follicles are then separated out from the strip under a microscope and prepared for transplantation. Since human hair grows in tiny bundles of 1-5 hair follicles called “follicular units,” which are 1-2 millimeters long and exit the scalp through a single pore, hair transplant technology now enables physicians to extract follicular units individually, Misko says. Using a 0.7 to 1.1 millimeter punch extraction device, Misko makes a tiny circular incision around each follicular unit to remove it from the back of the head. Each unit is then transplanted to areas of hair loss elsewhere on the scalp. Complete article
  9. Wayne Rooney has triggered a surge in hair transplant operations. Men are queuing up for the same £10,000 baldness cure as the footballer, according to the clinic which treated him. Nadeem Udin Khan, director of the Harley Street Hair Clinic, revealed today that inquiries have quadrupled and procedures are up from 300 last year to 450 so far this year. In an interview with the Standard, Mr Khan said that Rooney had also helped break “the taboo” over male hair loss. He said: “We’re getting everyone from film stars, company directors and bin men wanting the same transplant. People are even jetting in from Russia and the Middle East. “Football cuts through cultural boundaries and Wayne has helped break down the taboo around male baldness by going public about his transplant.” Like thousands of other men, Rooney suffers from male pattern baldness where the hair thins at the temple and sometimes at the crown of the head. The condition is triggered by a variety of factors including the hormone testosterone in younger men. In his autobiography, the Manchester United striker admitted to staring at himself in the morning and thinking: “Bloody hell, you’re going bald and you’re only a young lad.” Rooney, 26, opted for hair surgery last year and the procedure he underwent is known as follicular unit extraction where doctors isolate individual hair follicles then insert them into the problem area. Each transplant is customised to give a more natural look which matches the spread of existing hair. Complete hair transplant article

Bauman, M.D. is offering a pro bono hair transplant to a woman who has experienced hair loss of the scalp, eyebrows or eyelashes as the result of an accident, trauma or surgery. “There are many types of injuries and illnesses that can lead to permanent hair loss,” said Dr. Bauman, a board-certified hair restoration surgeon and member of the ISHRS. “These include burns or accidents; long-term use of hair weaves and extensions--including eyelash extensions or even plastic surgery; etc. Restoring hair to a scarred area is a critical part of the psychological healing after this kind of injury because our hair is such an important part of how we feel about ourselves each day.” As a participating physician in the ISHRS’ charitable Operation Restore program, Dr. Alan Bauman is currently seeking female candidates who meet these parameters to receive a pro-bono (free) microsurgical hair transplant.
