The only difference between Proscar and Propecia is the dosage and price. If you've been on Proscar, I hope you haven't been taking a whole pill every day blink.gif ? They are both finasteride - Proscar is 5mg and Propecia 1mg. So there wouldn't be any difference - unless you've been taking 5mg a day instead of 1mg.

No Ive been taking half a tablet Monday,Wednesday and Friday but i hear of people cutting the tablets into fifths which is very hard to do and how can you be sure you are getting the correct dose?

scotty it doesn`t matter if the cut pieces are different sizes as long as you get the full tablet in 5 days
ie cut into fifths take one fifth every day for 5 days
ie cut into quarters take one quarterfor 4 days with one day off
hope this is easy to understand mate

Scotty, the recommended dose for hair loss is 1mg per day. It doesn't matter if you take slightly more or slightly less.

Look at the chart below. DHT inhibition is marked along the vertical axis and dosage along the horizontal axis. Start at 0 on the horizontal axis and move to the right. Notice how DHT inhibition (on the vertical axis) goes up sharply as we increase the dose, but goes up much more slowly after we get to 0.2mg. This means that there is little difference in DHT inhibition between doses of 0.2mg per day, 1mg per day or 5mg per day.

However, this doesn't mean that you can take any dose above 0.2mg and it would be equally good for treating hair loss. Merck ran trials and found that 1mg per day is the dose that gives the best balance between effectiveness and keeping the risk of side effects relatively low. If you took 5mg per day you'd experience regrowth more quickly, but you wouldn't gain any more hair over the long run.
