I was just surfing sports supplement websites and found a product by the reputable company, Reflex called LinumLife that contains a ***** of plant chemicals called lignans that are derived from Flax. I don't know if anyone has tried anything simliar but it could be a option for people that are too young to take finasteride, or maybe if finasteride doesn't agree with you or is too expensive. I guess it would be OK to take it in addition to 1mg of finasteride because it is a natural product.

17ß-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase
17ß-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (17ß-OHSD) is another steroid-metabolizing enzyme present in tissue. 17ß-OHSD converts testosterone to androstenedione and estrogens. Lignans demonstrate to be potent inhibitors of 17ß-OHSD.
Anti-oxidant effect
In addition to these regulating effects on the metabolism of testosterone, SDG, Enterolactone and Enterodiol are potent antioxidants. They scavenge reactive oxygen species, like O2-, H2O2, -OH.

You've got to be careful with these 'natural' remedies. Anything that promises to be a safe, cheap and totally harmless alternative to a drug that's been through a multi-million dollar research and testing process is probably too good to be true. Have there been any large scale clinical trials of this flax extract? Probably not. Show me some real evidence and I might be persuaded.

I see that HMRlignan is claimed to have benefits for prostate health, but no mention is made of DHT suppression. Sources say lignans are converted into enterolactone, which exerts a weak estrogen-like activity. I'm not a doctor or a biochemist but I'm sceptical whether this can be effective against MPB.

I wouldn't concentrate on just dht suppression..but this is the response I had gotten when asking about their(HMRlignan) affect(s), if any, on hair. I had shown them the flax lignan "study"/article:
