Everyone talks about how finasteride inhibits DHT which causes hair loss and the 'experts' say that DHT is the reason why people (men) lose their hair.
However, if this is the case why does it not work on all people or more to the point on frontal hair loss.
To me, this indicates that there are other factors apart from DHT which causes the type of hair loss which finasteride is aimed at preventing.
What do you all reckon?
WW.
Well Finasteride works at the vertex (top of the head) and the anterior mid scalp area (front middle of the head). It doesn't work at the temples, and it doesn't work at all for 17% of users.
Remember that Finasteride is an effective DHT inhibitor but it 'only' reduces DHT by about 66% (compared to >90% with Dutasteride) and there is significant variation in that level between individuals.
The good news is that there are other drugs and treatments in development, so hopefully we will have more effective therapies in the next few years.
