Hi,
I have been trying these for about 12 months now. Difficult to say they have done anything really. Perhaps front is fuller but I have lost a lot in my crown area. Having said that, any improvements may be masked by a horrid divorce I am going through and all the stress that brings. Life has been hell these past 18 months. And now I may have to face dating again in my forties. So as you can imagine l would like to be confident and losing hair can dent that. I think I may give up on these treatments, but wondered if any of you have tried and persevered with them with encouraging results? Many Thanks, HairHope |

HH, neither of these "treatments" (I use the word with reservations!) are clinically proven. If you want real results, it's finasteride and/or minoxidil. Thanks to Dr Ashcroft finasteride is now very affordable. £100 for 15 months supply - £6.67 per month - cheap as chips, certainly a lot more cost effective than Nourkrin.
Good luck on the dating scene. Remember that many women don't mind baldness - some even prefer it. |

This Finasteride (is that what is in Propecia and Proscar?); are they prescription meds in UK? So if you went to your doc and asked for it, would he prescribe fairly easily for hair loss or is it prescribed for something else (i.e. reduced hairloss is a side effect?) Is this doc just offering it at a discount? Is he allowed to do that? Is there any evidence that this medication can regrow hair or is it a 'hang on to what you have' thing? I found Nizoral in Boots so might give that a try. I remember trying Nism a few years back and thought it helped for about a year. I'm just hoping some of my recent shed is stress related (Div) and may come back because something has made me wake up with (abnormally) lots of hairs on the pillow so I know I am losing more just now. HairHope Many Thanks, HairHope |

Can I ask a straight question? This Finasteride (is that what is in Propecia and Proscar?); are they prescription meds in UK? Yes, finasteride is the active ingredient in both Propecia (a 1mg dose prescribed for male pattern hair loss) and Proscar (a 5mg dose prescribed for benign prostatic hyperplasia). QUOTE So if you went to your doc and asked for it, would he prescribe fairly easily for hair loss or is it prescribed for something else (i.e. reduced hairloss is a side effect?) Your doc would probably offer you Propecia on private prescription (i.e. you pay full cost), but some GPs haven't heard of the medication - they are generalists as opposed to dermatology specialists, as their name implies. You can also get Propecia from Boots Pharmacy "Hair Retention Programme". QUOTE Is this doc just offering it at a discount? Is he allowed to do that? Dr Ashcroft will offer you generic Proscar, which is cheaper than Propecia. You split the pills to take 1mg per day. And yes, it's perfectly legal. QUOTE Is there any evidence that this medication can regrow hair or is it a 'hang on to what you have' thing? Both - have a look at the official site here: http://www.propecia.com/finasteride/propec...sumer/index.jsp QUOTE I found Nizoral in Boots so might give that a try. It's a useful adjunct to finasteride, but not a treatment in its own right (unless you have dandruff). |
