I havent started on fin yet. Hopefully will sometime this year, though one thing I havent read up on are its effects on women?
What does it do to women that could be harmfull? It's pretty much in your system, so sweat, saliva, blood and sperm could affect them if in contact right? |

I think it's only a problem if she's pregnant - Fin might cause birth defects, but I don't know if that's been proven - it's a grey area.
That's why the manufacturers put the warning on the box, because they're scared of being sued. Best to keep it away from pregant women to be on the safe side |

It's not directly harmful to women, it's risky for a male foetus.
QUOTE 'Propecia' is contraindicated for use in women due to the risk in pregnancy QUOTE Because of the ability of type II 5α-reductase inhibitors to inhibit conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in some tissues, these drugs, including finasteride, may cause abnormalities of the external genitalia of a male foetus when administered to a pregnant woman. QUOTE Crushed or broken tablets of 'Propecia' should not be handled by women when they are or may potentially be pregnant because of the possibility of absorption of finasteride and the subsequent potential risk to a male foetus. 'Propecia' tablets are coated to prevent contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, provided that the tablets are not broken or crushed. QUOTE A small amount of finasteride, less than 0.001% of the 1 mg dose per ejaculation, has been detected in the seminal fluid of men taking 'Propecia'. Studies in Rhesus monkeys have indicated that this amount is unlikely to constitute a risk to the developing male foetus The drug has been trialled in post-menopausal women... QUOTE Lack of efficacy was demonstrated in post-menopausal women with androgenetic alopecia who were treated with 'Propecia' in a 12 month, placebo-controlled study (n=137). These women did not show any improvement in hair count, patient self-assessment, investigator assessment, or ratings based on standardised photographs, compared with the placebo group. |

good info guys
I read one of the guys on hair loss disscusion forum said he fathered two kids whilst on fin. Would you think it's best to stop taking it if you plan to have kids? so the warnings only apply to pregnat women's foetus and not the woman. I dont suppose it could affect a womans foetus if she was in contact with it before pregnancy? |

Would you think it's best to stop taking it if you plan to have kids? probably best to ask a medical specialist. QUOTE so the warnings only apply to pregnat women's foetus and not the woman. I dont suppose it could affect a womans foetus if she was in contact with it before pregnancy? Finasteride only has a half life of a few hours, so even if a woman ingested some it would be gone before she has the chance to get knocked up. (I think) |

Finasteride can cause a reduction in the amount of semen released during ejaculation, but this isn't supposed to have much effect on someone with normal fertility. |
