Hi,

I have just brought some Nizoral to add to my regime, just had a few questions about it?

1) Is it best to use it all over, or just on thinner/balding areas?

2) Is twice a week the amount you are supposed to use it?

3) What does it actually do (I thought it just got rid of dandruff)?

4) Any success stories with Nizoral as part of a regime?

Any feedback is good feedback.

Thanks.

I use Nizorelle (the weaker formula) twice a week - that's the recommended usage. It might be different for Nizoral, check the instructions. I use it all over my head.

Spex talks about how Nizoral works on his site: http://www.hairhelp.myzen.co.uk/?q=node/6

Don't know if it's helped me, probably too soon to tell.

according to Hairlosstalk.com...

QUOTE
It is a little known fact that the FDA trial participants all used a shampoo like Nizoral for the duration of the trial. This was required, as the increased sebum production, inflammation, and irritation caused by the balding process can limit the effectiveness of any treatment. This is why it is STRONGLY recommended that a regimen including Propecia also include Nizoral shampoo used once every 3 days in rotation with your normal shampoo. You will not see optimum results without Nizoral, or a shampoo like it, in your regimen.

don't know if that's true or not, but it's something to think about.

I use Nizoral twice a week in conjunction with 1mg Finasteride a day and have been for nearly 3 years now and my shedding seems to have completely stopped. Not exactly scientific, but there you go smile.gif

"What does it actually do (I thought it just got rid of dandruff)?"

I thought that it was simply anti-fungal. Does it have more affect than this?

Nizoral contains an active ingredient called ketoconazole, which is an anti-fungal drug with an additional anti-inflammatory action. A couple of small studies have shown it to have a beneficial effect on some balding men.

Nizoral is 2% keto, Nizorelle is 1%. I think the 1% is supposed to perform similarly to the 2%.
