Hair Treatment Centres: Do They Work Or Are A Waste Of Hope, Time And Money? Options

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum. I have had considerable hair loss over the past year and am considering going for treatments at a hair center. It is very costly and consists of weekly visits over the course of 3 months where they I think massage your head and try and remove excess oiliness and improve circulation.

According to their website their method consists of:

"It combines the application of different techniques with the latest technological equipment: hair regenerator, ozonotherapy and laser, together with the use of bioproteine nutrients.

Benefits of the treatments:

* A substantial increase of the blood flow.
* Stimulation of circulatory liquids and secretions.
* Improve follicular oxygenation and strengthen hair bulb, which results in better hair nutrition.
* Lower both carbonic acid tension and the degree of tissue acidosis.
* Increases homogeneously body inner temperature and grease elimination.
* Keep your hair healthy, soft and shiny.


Does anyone have any experience with these places? Is this just total crap or may it really decrease my hair loss? Along with this weekly visit they also give (sell) you a whole bunch of supplements and shampoos, hair brushes, etc. I just don't know if it's a good choice as the weekly visits will be very hard to maintain (it's very far from me).

Also, lately the itchiness and "oily dandruff" has gotten way worse. Even after I wash my head with a neutral shampoo the dermatologist recommended, it itches so much and I feel I'm losing even more hair because of this white oily coat over my head. At this hair center I was told I had pityriasis and not seborrhoeic dermatitis (as opposed to what the dermatologist had told me). The thing is my whole body now feels like it's on fire, not just my head. I was also told at this hair center that minoxidil is bad as it's a vasodilator; the dermatologist tells me to use it (though I now have facial hair as a side effect...I'm a girl). I just don't know who to believe and this situation is devastating..

I was going to tell you to take these places and treatments with a large pinch of salt, but then realised you're female - and that's a different kettle of fish to Male Hairloss.
I do think that these specialist private clinics are motivated by making profits as much as anything, whereas that isn't the case with your GP/NHS health services - so if you're confused about what the cause of the problem is, then get a reliable and trustworthy doctor to examine you before deciding on a course of treatment.

I wish I knew more but I'm no expert, hopefully someone else on this forum can help you out. Good luck

Welcome to the forum.

I would not waste my money going to this clinic as what they sell you can be purchased by yourself for a fraction of the cost.They make their money through your vulnrebility.
If it is pityriasis i would go to your own family doctor who will prescribe you with the appropriate medication and may send you for tests to confirm it is that and what is causing it.

For now i would use nizoral shampoo to dry the excess oil on your scalp.

This is a quite common problem for women who are 30 years plus and can be treated easily by your own doctor.
