I've been told that washing it every day is not especially good for the hair because shampoo can strip the hair of its nutrients etc.., so somedays I just rinse it with water but don't use shampoo. However, on these days my hair feels greasy and flat and horrible, so I prefer shampoo days.

On the other hand, when I do use shampoo/conditioner I worry that it may make more hair fall out because of the rubbing motion... it also takes longer ( the conditioner you should leave in for 3 minutes apparently), and in the morning I'm rushed for time.... wink.gif

I use a 'hair thickening' shampoo and conditioner I bought from Boots - not sure if it's any better than regular shampoo and conditioner though....

what is your hair washing routine?

Good question Joe, and one I have thought about recently.

I wash my hair everyday, up until a few weeks ago I had been using a normal shower gel, but have changed to a good shampoo, (on advice from this site) and have noticed a difference, hair is better, not thicker just seems in better condition.

I do not know if washing everyday does anything bad but I just always like to look "clean".

Would like to hear from anyone who knows whats best.

Tim

I wash my hair everyother day. I just feel the hair needs the natural grease, maybe im wrong but my hair seems better when i do it this way.

At the moment i use Herball Essence shampoo and nanothick conditioner. Seems to be ok for now.

Over-washing doesn't exacerbate male pattern hair loss, but it can make the hair dry and brittle. I wash my hair daily with a gentle shampoo and use a conditioner afterwards; I never have any problems (knock on wood).

I like Aveda's Pureformance men's line, The Body Shop honey moisturising shampoo and conditioner and the KOSPRO range. The first two are very gentle on the hair and scalp, the latter has some interesting new ingredients including a "Vital Hair and Scalp Complex".

I've found the best shampoo for thinning hair is loreal Elvive thickening shampoo for men. Really noticeable thickening effect.

Hi

I've started using Jason's Thin to Thick shampoo- I saw it on the USA forums ages ago but never actually bought any until last week- it seems like really good stuff-I think it contains all natural suff too.

And before you ask, I don't work for the company or have any vested interest in the product (although I do know someone called Jason) smile.gif

Cheers

how will I know if a shampoo/conditioner is 'gentle'? is there a specific PH value I should look out for or something?

by the way, the thickening shampoo and conditioner I use is called 'Thicker Fuller Hair: Advanced thickening solutions'. I'm not sure what company manufactures it, but it's made of natural ingredients (or so it says)

Check the ingredients - sulfate-free shampoos are usually regarded as gentler.

Bigmac..

thats strange as mine looks thinner if I dont wash it and that was with any shampoo or shower gel.

Also, dont know if its my imagination but my hair seems thicker now than 6 weeks ago !! Maybe the Nizoral, but only been using for a few weeks !! But I have swopped to a proper shampoo from Regaine.. called PreGaine...does not contain any magic ingredient and states on the bottle that it will not affect hairloss.. only been on the Proscar for 6 weeks... so a little confused... my close female friend (with the big boobs) also says my hair looks thicker huh.gif

yeah washing it with shampoo tends to make my hair 'puff out', which is great for the thinning bits but it can make the rest look a bit odd.

everything I've read suggests that frequent washing won't make more hair fall out, it just causes the ones that are already loose to come out

Dont use a hairdryer as not enough left, dries on its own in about 10 mins... but do own one as very useful for drying out accidental splashes on clothing tongue.gif

I think that anything done gently would be ok, not on "super-hot" and for ages ?

Could well be the combination of Nizoral and Proscar.... as shown in these trials..

http://www.hairlosstalk.com/productreviews/men/propecia/

NIZORAL: As mentioned above, it is a little known fact that the FDA required trial participants to use an anti-inflammatory shampoo like Nizoral for the duration of the trials. This means you should too. You must keep your scalp in a non-itchy, non-inflamed, non-flaky state in order for Propecia (or any other treatment for that matter) to work well.
